Centralia apartment fire displaces 24 residents

CENTRALIA, Wash. — An apartment fire in Centralia Wednesday morning has displaced 24 people.

The Riverside Fire Authority responded to the two-alarm fire at 1405 Lewis Street.

Fire authorities said flames came from a first floor apartment and the fire extended to a balcony on the second floor.

Five people were reportedly trapped inside an apartment on the second floor and two of them were children.

Fire officials said the two children were rescued by ladder and the adults were able to walk down after the fire was under control.

No injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross opened an emergency shelter at the Oakview Grange building located on North Pearl Street at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday for those impacted by the fire.

Fire officials reported that there were no smoke detectors present.

There is no estimated cost of the damage and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
