Snow, sleet make travel tricky through mountain passes

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. — A winter weather advisory is in effect until noon in the Cascades as snow continues to accumulate.

The National Weather Service said snow totals ranged from 8 to 15 inches in the Cascades and that 2 to 4 inches would fall by midday Monday.

The snow level is around 2,500 feet Monday morning, rising to around 4,000 feet by Monday afternoon.

Drivers encountered roads slickened by a mixture of sleet and snow, said KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Rick Price.

"That means slick conditions under your foot -- or under tires," he said.

Sunbreaks and a chance of a shower are likely in the lowlands Monday, said KIRO 7 Meteorologist Morgan Palmer.
