Sex offender caught after days-long manhunt

A sex offender who police said had a desire to abduct and sexually assault women was arrested Monday morning at a Lynnwood apartment.

John E. Stains, a Level 3 sex offender who refused sex offender treatment while in prison, was arrested by Marysville police with help from the Snohomish County Violent Offender Task Force. Investigators learned the apartment was the residence of the family member who was the victim of Stains from his 2009 incest conviction.

Police asked the public’s help in finding Stains, 39, after he was not at his home Thursday during a routine monthly check.
