BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. —

People and pets are advised to stay out of Eagle Harbor waters after a sewage spill Sunday.

City officials said at about 10:30 a.m. there was a break in the Highway 305 South force main, which is on the Eagle Harbor shoreline in the vicinity of the Washington State Ferry Terminal. This caused a sewer spill into Eagle Harbor.

A temporary bypass has been set up and the spill to the beach main was stopped by 1:30 p.m.

The amount of sewage spilled is unknown.

Shellfish harvesting has been closed and swimming beaches are closed until further notice.
