Seen on KIRO 7

How do I get my child tested for lead poisoning?

High levels of lead were found in the drinking water of six public elementary schools in Tacoma, which has raised concerns about lead poisoning.

A spokeswoman with Mary Bridge Pediatrics told KIRO 7 they have received many calls from worried parents.

But how do you know if your child has lead poisoning?

The only way to find out is through a blood lead test.

At Mary Bridge Pediatrics, parents will be transferred to the nurse’s line, where physicians order the bloodwork to be done for the child. Parents can go to any Laboratories Northwest.

After the bloodwork is done, it could take a few days to receive results.

From there, if there are elevated levels of lead in the blood, then the patients would be scheduled for an appointment.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention listed five things parents can do to help lower a child's lead level: Listed in English and Spanish.
