SeattleInsider: Meet the Emerald Cities Green Darner

It’s one of the largest of its kind, has huge eyes, a life span of one month and a long slender blue abdomen that earned it the name “darner” as it resembles that of a darner needle.

It’s also Washington state’s insect.

The Green Darner Dragonfly can be seen most in the Emerald City (and beyond!) starting in the Spring. That's now!

So keep your eyes peeled for the Green Darner as you enjoy this beautiful weather – and when you see one, say “Hello little green darner dragonfly. Thanks for being our state’s insect!”
