Seaside, OR police officer shot and killed outside of ‘Pig 'N Pancake'

SEASIDE, Ore. — A Seaside, Oregon police officer -- Sgt. Jason M. Goodding -- was shot and killed Friday night while attempting to serve a warrant.

Goodding and a second officer were attempting to place 55-year-old Phillip Ferry under arrest.

Ferry resisted; the second officer used a Taser.

Ferry then fired a shot, which struck Goodding.

Goodding was 39 years old and is survived by his wife and school-aged children.

Jason Goodding graduated from Sherwood High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Portland State University -- and was hired by the Seaside Police Dept. in April of 2003, according to Seaside Fire & Rescue.

"During his tenure he worked as a patrol officer, detective, and a patrol sergeant. Sergeant Gooding also dedicated time to his community by coaching several different sports teams within the Seaside area."
