Search team looks for missing Seattle mushroom hunter in Chelan County

CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. — Crews are searching the Chikamin Gulch area near the Basalt Peak trail for a 79-year-old mushroom hunter who has not been seen or heard from since Saturday.

According to deputies, Hildegard Hendrickson was on a day trip to the Chikamin Gulch area and never returned home to Seattle. She has been a mushroom hunter for 37 years.

Hendrickson’s vehicle is believed to have been parked at the USFS Trailhead #1539 since Saturday, but the vehicle was not called in as suspicious to authorities until late Tuesday morning.

A search and rescue team started looking Tuesday evening using two K9s and a dozen ground searchers, but could not find her.

The search for Hendrickson will resume Wednesday morning.

Anyone who has seen or had contact with Hendrickson in the Chikamin Flats or Basalt Creek area of Chelan County over the weekend is urged to contact the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office at 509-663-9911.
