Missing snowmobiler rescued outside Enumclaw

GREENWATER, Wash. — Three hours after a 911 call came in reporting that a Kent man missing during a snowmobile trip, rescue teams found him east of Enumclaw Thursday morning.

The 19-year-old is suffering from hypothermia after spending the night in the woods in the Greenwater area.

The 911 call didn’t come in until about 6 a.m.

“Hypothermia is nothing to play around with. You can easily fall into death pretty quickly,” said Alan Labissoniere, with King County Search and Rescue.

Friends say the 19-year-old man was fixing his snowmobile Wednesday and then went out alone.

Vitaliy Bednaruk isn’t an experienced snowmobiler, friends say, and they wish he hadn’t gone out by himself.

It’s unclear if his snowmobile broke down, but rescuers found him along the road Thursday morning in the Pyramid Pass Snow Park area.

Meantime, his friends had spent all night searching for him in the woods, to no avail.

“We didn’t know if he got hurt, or if he was bleeding out, or if he crashed his snowmobile or what happened. So, we wanted to find him as fast as possible,” said friend Robin Mamotyuk.
