Sally Jewell makes first trip to state as U.S. Secretary of Interior

SEATTLE - Sally Jewell made her first trip to the state since she was newly appointed as U.S. Secretary of Interior for a Saturday event at the University of Washington.

Jewell joined 150 people at the Outdoor Nation’s Signature Summit, which is a national initiative to empower youth to champion the outdoors on campuses and in communities across the country.

“If we don’t get the next generation into these public lands, they are not going to be the advocates for these special places that are so important to the planet,” Jewell said.

Jewell also said she is committed to building youth programs within her first few months as secretary.
