Bank robbery suspect barricades himself in North Seattle hotel

SEATTLE - A SWAT team and negotiators responded to a North Seattle hotel after a bank robbery suspect barricaded himself inside, police said.

The standoff was triggered Sunday afternoon when police went to the hotel  looking for a woman on an outstanding warrant.

The incident started around 1 p.m. in the 13300 block of Stone Avenue North.

Police told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Deborah Horne a woman with a warrant was staying at the hotel. When it was confirmed that she was at the hotel, police later found out she was staying with a man wanted in connection with at least one local bank robbery.

When officers went to the hotel room, the man shut the door and said he was holding the woman hostage.

According to police, the pair was locked inside the third floor of the hotel, which was evacuated.

Seattle police said both the man and woman were so high on drugs that it was hard to reason with them.

Around 5 p.m., the man let the woman out of the hotel room.

After the woman was taken into custody, the man refused to come out.   Authorities continued to talk with him until he surrendered a few hours later.
