Remains found by hikers ID'd as Seattle man reported missing in 2009

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — A medical examiner with Snohomish County confirmed Thursday that the remains found by hikers on Saturday were of a Seattle man who was reported missing in 2009.

According to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Greg Keller, who was 49 years old at the time of his disappearance, told his friends that he was going to go camping between Darrington and Granite Falls off the Mountain Loop Highway on Oct. 27, 2009, and return a week later.

Keller did not return, and his friends notified authorities. After a search, Keller was not found.

On Saturday, hikers reported finding remains near Boulder Creek Trail, and the Snohomish County medical examiner identified the remains as Keller.

The cause and manner of Keller’s death has yet to be determined.
