Rappers Sing About Drugs In 1987 KIRO 7 Special

SeattleInsider dug deep into the KIRO 7 archives to find another video gem for your viewing pleasure.

It was a 1987 KIRO 7 "Family Matters” special presentation hosted by Steve Raible.

The gymnasium at Franklin High School was packed with 500 students as a panel of teachers, administrators and Seattle Seahawk players discussed the growing problem of drug abuse in our country.

A svelte Raible sported a 1980’s mustache that would still demand respect and applause in 2013.

Polls showed that people felt the biggest problem facing America in 1987 was drug abuse.  So KIRO 7 produced a special called "Blow the Whistle on Drugs" to help facilitate a discussion about drug abuse in our community.

In Raible’s opening remarks he stated, “Tonight we are going to teach not preach. We are going to blow the whistle on drugs.”

The KIRO 7 special opened with a two-minute rap song performed by “The Soup Boys.” Singers Terry Green, Cedric Pirtle, Chris Brooks and Mario Bailey are seen in a high school locker room rapping about the negative effects of drug abuse.
