Power outage in downtown Tacoma affects Light Rail

TACOMA, Wash. — A power outage that disrupted service to Light Rail services in downtown Tacoma is being blamed on a blown transformer.

Fire crews told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News the transformer blew just after 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Repairs were expected to take at least six hours.

The outage was near the Convention Center and the University of Washington Tacoma.

The outage happened just as thousands of people were attending a Justin Bieber concert at the Tacoma Dome.

Buses were brought in to assist with shuttling Light Rail passengers.

While much of the power has been restored in the area, a small number of customers in the area of South 17th Street and Commerce remain without power.
