New controversy erupts in Pacific as mayor fires city clerk

Updated:

PACIFIC, Wash. - The mayor of Pacific, Mayor Cy Sun, fired the city's clerk in connection with Sun's arrest last week for allegedly trying to enter the clerk's locked office.

In a dismissal letter to Clerk Jane Montgomery, Sun said she caused the arrest by locking her office and leaving the keys with police.  He cited seven other reasons for firing her, including an allegation she made changes to an employee's pay and that she is not a certified clerk.

Montgomery's attorney told the Tacoma News Tribune that she has completed the necessary coursework for that title.

Sun is under investigation, accused of illegally destroying city records.
