Police: UW student sexually assaulted by man met on dating app

SEATTLE — Police report a woman was sexually assaulted in a University of Washington dorm by a man she met on a dating app.
 
UW police were told of the assault on Tuesday.
 
The two texted privately and agreed to meet in person.
 
Over the weekend of Feb. 27, the suspect allegedly assaulted her inside the residence hall.
 
The suspect is described as a 24-year-old white male, 6 feet tall, with a thin build. His hair is closely cropped and dark brown.
 
The suspect is not believed to be a UW student.
 
Police ask anyone with information to call the University of Washington Police Department at 206-685-8973.

 
Police released the following points in its news release:

  • Perpetrators are responsible for sexual assaults.
  • Perpetrators seek opportunities to commit sexual assault.
  • Trust your instincts. If you feel unsafe, get to a safe place and call for help.
  • Get verbal consent from your partner and don't assume you know what the other person wants.
  • Sexual Assault is a crime and a violation of the UW Student Conduct Code.
  • On campus, call Husky NightWalk at 206-685-WALK (9255) for a security guard escort, seven days a week.

If you experience sexual assault:

  • Go to a safe place.
  • Notify police immediately to report a crime.
  • Call a friend, a family member, or advocate who can be with you and give you support.
  • Get medical care as soon as possible.
  • Preserve all physical evidence of the assault.
