VANCOUVER, Wash. - An officer has been shot in Vancouver and police are searching for the suspect.

The officer had stopped a car that was reported stolen. When a dispatcher tried to contact the officer, and a citizen came on radio saying the officer had been shot, Lt. Scott Creager told The Columbian.

It happened about 11:30 a.m. Monday. The officer has been taken to a hospital.

The car left the scene but crashed a short time later on a dead-end street and the suspect fled on foot.

Police are searching house-to-house in the east Vancouver neighborhood looking for the suspect. They have taken a second possible suspect in custody.

The search area includes Diamond Park, the area around Burton Elementary School and the Evergreen Public Schools bus barn.

KIRO 7 reporter Kevin McCarty is at the scene. This developing story will be updated when additional details are available.
