Police: Man struck in face by light rail train

SEATTLE — Police say a man was high and inebriated when he was hit in the face by a Light Rail train in south Seattle on Monday.

This happened at Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Holly Street at around 5:06 p.m.

"A Sound Transit light rail train was northbound on MLK Jr. Way South.  At or near the intersection with South Holly Street the pedestrian walked into the train, which struck him on his face and knocked him backward," Detective Jeff Kappel said in a statement.

Medics transported the man to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. He had non-life-threatening injuries to his face.

No other injuries were reported.

Kappel said the investigation is ongoing.
