Police: Man shot in Pioneer Square

SEATTLE — A man is in stable condition after he was shot early Saturday morning in Pioneer Square, police said.

After 4:30 a.m., there were 911 calls of a shooting in the area of Third Avenue and James Street.

According to police, an officer found a man with a gunshot wound to the chest area at First Avenue and Yesler Way. The man stated that he had been shot, but did not know the person that shot him and why.

After crews responded to the scene, medics took the man to Harborview Medical Center.

Police said the man’s family caused a large disturbance at the hospital, and additional officers responded.

The man went into surgery, and is in stable condition.

Witnesses told police the shooting may have happened in the 500 block of Third Avenue, and the shooter is unknown and still at large.

Police said the shooting does not appear to be a random act and is still being investigated.
