PUYALLUP, Wash. - A 35-year-old Pierce County man died from his injuries after he was hit while crossing the street on Puyallup’s South Hill.

It happened Monday night around 6:45 p.m. Investigators said the victim, identified by a family member as Tracy Frederick, was pushing a bike in the crosswalk with two friends when a driver crashed into him.

Police say the driver had a green light. Investigators had trouble identifying the victim.  His friends didn’t know his last name and he wasn’t carrying ID.

The northbound lanes of S. Meridian were closed by South Hill Mall for about four hours.

Accident investigators spent hours measuring, taking pictures and collecting evidence. They were able to identify Frederick  just before 10 p.m.  and were working to find his family.

Frederick was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma, where he died from his injuries at 10:45 p.m.
