Police investigate fatal Tacoma shooting

TACOMA, Wash. —

Police are investigating a homicide after a man died from his injuries in a downtown Tacoma shooting Friday night.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired at about 9:14 p.m near South 23rd Street and South Yakima Avenue.

Police said a 20-year-old man was shot and two friends brought him in a car to a Jack in the Box in the 2400 block of Pacific Avenue to get help. Initial police information incorrectly stated the victim was 30 years old.

The man was taken to the Tacoma General Hospital but died from his injuries before midnight.

Tacoma police told KIRO 7 that two men were booked into the Pierce County Jail Saturday in relation to the incident. Jazz Montez Martin and Denzel Lamar Thompson are in jail for investigation of second-degree murder in connection to the fatal shooting.

Police have interviewed witnesses and the investigation is ongoing.
