Police: Fires appear to have been set inside Tacoma cars

TACOMA, Wash. — Two car fires in a south Tacoma alley appear to be the work of an arsonist, Tacoma police said.

Spokeswoman Officer Loretta Cool said the fires were spotted around 1:20 a.m. Wednesday. One car was in the alley in the 6500 block of south Fawcett Street, the other in the 6700 block of the same alley. The owner of one car was able to extinguish the blaze before firefighters arrived. The second fire was doused by Tacoma firefighters.

Cool said the fires appeared to have been set inside the vehicles but investigators have not yet determined how they were started. There is no known motive for the fires, Cool said.
