Police: Auburn man taken into custody after Ore. hit-and-run

RUFUS, Ore. — Police took a 42-year-old Auburn man into custody after a hit-and-run Friday night near Rufus, Ore.

According to police, a vehicle was disabled on the shoulder lane of eastbound Interstate 84 near the John Day Dam.

Police said a passenger got out of the vehicle to retrieve a drive line that dropped onto the highway.

The man from Goldendale was then struck by a commercial truck, which continued traveling eastbound.

Police said the passenger was seriously injured and taken to Mid-Columbia Medical Center.

After police arrived to the scene, the Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office notified Oregon State Police that a deputy found the commercial truck near Arlington.

Police said Viktor Akhrimovich, of Auburn, was taken into custody and brought to the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facility on a felony hit-and-run charge.
