Playground set in Everett park destroyed by fire

EVERETT, Wash. — A playground set in Everett was destroyed by a fire overnight.

The incident happened at Garfield Park in the 2300 block of Walnut Street.

A witness took video with his phone of the fire Saturday night. The video shows the playground set engulfed in flames.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Henry Rosoff spoke with Christy Uhlman, who lives near the park and saw the fire.

“I’m like, ‘Oh my God. The park is on fire,’” said Uhlman. “So we ran down here and it was devastating. The flames just engulfed the entire thing."

Police are not calling the fire arson, but neighbors believe the fire was intentionally set.

Everett police told KIRO 7 that arson investigators have not been called.

The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
