Phase 2 flood alert issued for Snoqualmie River

NORTH BEND, Wash. — The Snoqualmie River is at flood phase 2, King County authorities said, warning that minor flooding is expected in low-lying areas.

The alert cames after forecasters canceled a flood watch for the Puyallup River near Orting because overnight rainfall was not as heavy as expected.

Showers will be decreasing Monday and no additional heavy rain is anticipated, the weather service said.

Heavy rain is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, with 24- to 36-hour rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches in the mountains, with up to 6 inches of rain possible in some spots.

"The heaviest amounts are expected to fall over the southern facing slopes of the Olympics but most mountain areas will likely see significant rainfall by Wednesday afternoon," the weather service said.
