Man trapped on cliff east of Enumclaw for days rescued by chopper

A man who was trapped on a cliff east of Enumclaw for days was rescued by a helicopter crew Thursday.

The King County Sheriff's Office said the 41-year-old man was trapped near the Mud Mountain Dam, which was built on the White River by the Army Corps of Engineers in the 1940s.

The man had been stuck there since Sunday.

An employee at the dam heard the man calling for help and called 911 about 7:45 a.m.

The area was so steep that crews could not reach the man from the ground.

A King County Sheriff''s Office helicopter, known as Guardian 2, was able to hoist the man off the cliff.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he's being treated for exposure and hypothermia.

Mud Mountain Dam protects the lower White and Puyallup river valleys from flooding.
