Pedestrian struck by train dies


SEATTLE - A pedestrian died Thursday morning after he was hit by a train, police said. 

The incident happened at Alaskan Way West and West Lee Street just before 5:30 a.m. 

According to police, a preliminary investigation indicated that the operator brought his train to a halt after realizing he had struck something, and he found a man underneath the train, lying on the tracks. 

Crews responded to the scene and treated the pedestrian. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The man later died from his injuries at the hospital. 

The incident remains under investigation.
