Parking restricted for the holidays at Seattle's Kerry Park

SEATTLE — No parking signs line W Highland Drive where people would usually park to stop by and see Seattle's most iconic view of the city skyline at Kerry Park.

The signs restrict parking Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. through Dec. 31.

Ray Lane from Puget Sound Energy said crews are upgrading a gas line.

When asked why the construction had to happen during the holiday season, Lane said, "We understand construction work in neighborhoods can be an imposition. We're hoping the impact is relatively limited. Summertime would have been an even tougher time to get things done around Kerry Park with its popularity. This upgrade will allow for better service and improve system integrity."

Some visitors said they had to walk 10 minutes to get to the park because of the parking restrictions.

Tour guide Joe Pritchard admitted he parked illegally so his group could get a glimpse of the skyline.

Pritchard added, "I'll leave before the cops get here."
