Orphaned bear cub released with Cinder killed by hunter

IDAHO — An orphaned bear cub, released at the same time and location as Cinder [Washington's beloved bear cub], was killed in October by a hunter.

Cinder was severely burned in the biggest wildfire in Washington state history. She was returned to the wild in June, after recovering at the Idaho Black Bear Rehabilitation Center in Idaho.

The bear that was killed recovered at the same rehab center.

The bear was wearing a radio collar. It was shot and killed around a mile from where it was released.

According to officials with the Wash. Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, the hunter was “perfectly legal” in shooting the bear, as it was in season.

It was the hunter’s first time killing a bear, according to officials.

The bear was around 2 years old.
