1 dead, 1 injured in stabbing at Olympia tavern

OLYMPIA, Wash. — One person is dead and one other was injured following a stabbing at  a bar in Olympia Tuesday morning.

The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. in the 400 block of 4th Avenue East at McCoy's Tavern.

Olympia police officers responded to an emergency call at McCoys Tavern in downtown Olympia.  When officers arrived, they found that two people had been injured with knife wounds.

One of the victims died as a result of their injuries. Police said the suspect in the stabbing had left the tavern on foot.

When officers made contact with the suspect several blocks away from the tavern, he was still holding a knife.

Police said officers used a taser to take control of the suspect after he failed to comply with the officers' commands.

The suspect is described as a 34-year-old Olympia resident. He is currently in police custody.

The second victim was transported to St. Peter Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators are in the process of interviewing several witnesses who were inside of the bar at the time of the stabbings.  The suspect remains in police custody.
