Olympia police search for missing historic ship's wheel

Updated:

OLYMPIA, Wash. - A historic schooner ship’s wheel disappeared early Sunday morning as it was docking at Percival Landing in Olympia, according to a spokesperson with Sound Experience.

Olympia police were notified about the incident and have been searching the area for the 3-foot diameter wheel.

"We are doing everything we can to come up with a loaner wheel," said Executive Director Catherine Collins. "Our incredible maritime community from Olympia to Bellingham is working hard to help us come up with a solution so our kids can sail tomorrow."

Sound Experience, the organization that owns the ship, is offering a $100 reward for the return of the wheel.

The Adventuress is in Olympia for the weekend for public dockside tours and public sails. The ship will set sail Monday with 24 students on a three-day educational program about the Puget Sound.
