Officers rescue ducklings from storm drain

MERCER ISLAND, Wash. — Mercer Island police officers rescued ducklings from a storm drain Sunday morning.

At about 8:15 a.m., police responded to a report of ducks in a drain near Lakeridge Elementary School.

When officers arrived, they found a mother duck circling the drain and appeared to be distressed. The officers found the ducklings, which were 6 feet down in the drain.

An officer told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that he pulled the iron grating and retrieved the ducks by using a fishing net.

Twelve ducks in all were rescued.
