Officer shoots at man during foot chase

TACOMA, Wash. — An officer shot at a man Wednesday night during a police chase on foot, authorities said.

The incident happened at a business in the 3500 block of McKinley Avenue around 10:45 p.m.

According to police, officers responded to the location after a person called about a man who was causing problems and had a gun.

Before police arrived, the man went outside the business to smoke.

The owner of the establishment asked the man to not come back inside the building because he was causing problems.

The man complied but did not leave the front of the business.

When police arrived, the owner pointed out the man to officers.

Police said the man walked away, but officers told him to stop.

When the man did not stop, he started to run, and officers chased him.

As officers continued to chase the man, they told him to stop, and they could not see his hands.

Police said an officer fired one round, and the man immediately went to the ground. He complied with the officer’s commands.

Crews responded to the scene to check on the man. He was not shot and was not injured, but he was taken into custody.

Police will continue to investigate the incident.
