U.S. President Barack Obama observed a moment of silence at the White House lawn on the 12th anniversary of the September 11th attacks on the United States. Obama was joined by First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden for the solemn gathering honoring the nearly 3,000 people killed when hijacked jetliners crashed into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a Pennsylvania field.
