Northbound lanes of Snohomish River Bridge remain closed until Tuesday

Updated:

EVERETT, Wash. - The northbound lanes of the State Route 529 Snohomish River Bridge will remain closed until midday Tuesday, said officials with the Washington State Department of Transportation.

SR 529 at Marine View Drive was closed due to structural damages from a crash Saturday morning. The bridge’s two support beams were struck during the collision.

“The impact of the SUV did significant structural damage to vertical and diagonal support beams," said Dave McCormick, assistant regional administrator for maintenance and operations of the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The closure was previously scheduled to end early Monday afternoon, but due to difficult repairs and wet, cold and windy weather conditions, crews will reopen lanes on Tuesday.

The Everett Police Department told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News the crash was the result of a pursuit by the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office.

Drivers on SR 529 will be detoured to Interstate 5.
