Woman dies in 2-alarm Everett house fire

EVERETT, Wash. — One person died in a two-alarm house fire in Everett early Thursday.

The flames at the home on Shore Avenue and Sound Avenue broke out in the basement shortly after 2:30 a.m., according to Everett fire.

Callers to 911 said they heard someone yelling "fire" and "help," and other callers reported seeing flames coming from the home.

Before fire crews arrived, dispatchers received information that one person was trapped inside the burning home. A neighbor tried to rescue the senior-aged woman, but the flames were too strong and forced him out just as firefighters arrived.

Once at the scene, firefighters quickly rescued the trapped woman, but she could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other people who lived in the house were able to escape but were injured.  A woman with significant burns and man with non-life-threatening injuries were both taken to the hospital, according to Everett fire.

The brick house has extensive damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
