Vigil planned outside Cascade Mall as memorial for victims grows

BURLINGTON, Wash. — A vigil is set for Monday night in the parking lot of the Cascade Mall to honor the five people who were killed by a gunman.

What to know:

  • 4 women, 1 man killed in Cascade Mall Friday night
  • Shooting happened near the Macy's makeup department
  • No indication the shootings were a terrorist act
  • Shooter at large for more than 24 hours
  • 20-year-old man arrested Saturday evening

Authorities say the man responsible is 20-year-old Arcan Cetin.

The Light the Boulevard vigil will start at 7p.m. Monday. Community leaders plan to speak then spread out along Burlington Boulevard in a show of unity.

The vigil comes as we are continuing to learn more about the five victims through their friends and loved ones.

The coroner is set to officially identify the victims Tuesday, but family and friends have confirmed the names of four of the five victims.

The youngest, 16-year-old Sarai Lara, was a high school sophomore from Mount Vernon.

Chuck Eagan, a long-time Boeing maintenance worker, was killed while protecting his wife.

Belinda Galde, 64, died along with her 95-year-old mother, Beatrice Dotson.

Galde was a probation officer. KIRO 7 talked to a man who was under her supervision.

“She motivated me a lot. Gave me hope. She loved my daughter and she looked to you know, we were pretty close. I kind of looked forward to going in and saying, ‘Hi,’” said Donny Schack.

KIRO 7 was told that the fifth victim was a makeup artist at Macy's.

The mall in Burlington is set to reopen at 10 a.m. Monday, where a memorial continues to grow near the entrance with cards, signs, flowers and balloons.

The Macy’s store, where the shootings occurred Friday night, will remain closed.

Vigils over the weekend honored the victims at Central United Methodist Church in Sedro-Wooley, as well as at Maiben Park.
