Reward of up to $10,000 offered for arson at Mukilteo school

MUKILTEO, Wash. — The city of Mukilteo is offering an award of up to $10,000 information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for an arson at an elementary school last week.

On Saturday, May 13 at 10:06 p.m., Mukilteo police and firefighters were called to Columbia Elementary School for a fire that started at the back of the school and destroyed electrical and computer equipment.

Investigators said the fire was intentionally set.

The arson caused $100,000 in damage.

Fire investigators say someone started a fire inside or on a portable toilet in back of the building Saturday night, but the fire spread.

The eaves were charred and phone and internet lines were disrupted.

The damage caused school to be canceled the following Monday.

Anyone with information about the fire or the person who may be responsible is asked to contact 1-800-55-ARSON. In addition, the Mukilteo Police Department can be contacted by e-mail at crimetips@mukilteowa.gov or by calling 425-263-8107 to speak directly to a detective.  Police say every effort will be made to keep information and tips anonymous.
