Mobile home fire injures man and firefighter

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — A mobile home fire north of Lynnwood sent one man to the hospital early Tuesday.

The fire happened at Serene Terrace Mobile Home Park, which is located in the 14300 block of Admiralty Way.

A neighbor called 911 at 12:10 a.m. and reported seeing flames coming from a mobile home, officials said.

When a Snohomish County sheriff's deputy arrived, he woke up a man in his 50s and helped to get him out, officials said.

South County Fire officials said the man was exposed to smoke and taken to the hospital.

A firefighter also suffered a minor injury and was taken to the hospital for treatment and release, officials said.

Firefighters said they were able to get the fire under control in 30 minutes, but the mobile home is "uninhabitable" and a truck parked next to the home was destroyed.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal's Office said the fire started on the outside of the home and appears to be accidental.

Officials said the mobile home had no working smoke alarms.

“Smoke alarms are so important because they give you the warning you need to escape a fire. The resident, in this case, was very fortunate his neighbor discovered the fire and the deputy was able to make enough noise to wake him so he could get out before the fire spread inside the mobile home,” said Leslie Hynes, public information officer for South County Fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
