The money was from a property buyout from the Oso landslide.

John Reed and his brother, Tony Reed, are suspected of killing Patrick Shunn and Monique Patenaude.  They disappeared on April 11 and their bodies haven't been found.

The Herald obtained a copy of a new search warrant outlining the days after the murder.

According to the Herald, John Reed tried cashing a $96,000 cashier's check in Ellensburg.

The bank in Ellensburg wouldn't cash the check, which was from the property John Reed sold that was damaged in the Oso landslide.

Instead, the bank wrote five checks  -- four for $14,000 each to relatives and one $40,000 check to John Reed.

But police asked for a stop payment, and, according the Herald, the money was frozen.

Based on evidence, authorities suspect the Reed brothers left Ellensburg and have likely crossed the border into Mexico.
