EVERETT, Wash. — Three corrections employees at the Snohomish County Jail were hurt after an inmate assaulted them early Wednesday.
The attack was reported about 1 a.m. by the corrections deputy working in the jail's maximum security module.
The inmate, a 28-year-old man, was out of his cell for free time when he reportedly attacked the deputy without provocation. The deputy tried to get the inmate under control as other corrections staff arrived.
During the struggle, another corrections deputy and a corrections sergeant were hurt. All three employees are male.
The inmate was restrained, medically evaluated by staff and will remain in the Snohomish County Jail for the time being.
He was originally booked into the jail on March 5 by the Lake Stevens Police Department for resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, third-degree assault on a police officer and burglary charges, police said.
The two corrections deputies and the sergeant have since been released by the hospital. The Snohomish County Sheriff says the two deputies will need some recovery time.
The attack is being investigated by Snohomish County sheriff's deputies.
The last reported serious assault by an inmate on corrections staff happened last December.
