Mysterious odor sickens workers opening mail

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Employees at the state Health Care Authority Building in Olympia were sickened by a mysterious odor that was emanating from mail.

The four employees, who were opening the mail Tuesday, became ill from the strong odors.

The floor they were working on was evacuated and the suspicious mail was placed in a barrel to contain the scent.

The Washington State Patrol SWAT team, which is trained in hazmat situations, were called to the building at 626 Eighth Avenue Southwest to investigate.

The sick workers were treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.
