Mudslide halts North Sound passenger train service

SEATTLE — A new mudslide between Mukilteo and Everett has halted train service in the area, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe representative tells KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

The slide, at about 1 p.m. on Thursday, means there won't be Amtrak or North Sounder train service until at least Jan. 5 at 1:15 p.m., said Gus Melonas, citing a rule that bars passenger rail service within 48 hours after a slide.

Melonas said freight service may be moving again Thursday afternoon.
