Motorcyclist killed fleeing from police

SPANAWAY, Wash. — A 23-year-old man was killed in an early morning accident on southbound State Route 7 at the Roy Y in Spanaway. The Roy Y is where State Route 7 and State Route 507 split. It happened just before 1 a.m.

A nearby resident says that drivers tend to go too fast and there are often accidents.

Speed was likely a contributing factor in this crash as well. A witness says that two motorcycles were trying to outrun police and were travelling over 100 miles per hour.

Police had seen a group of four motorcycles traveling at a high rate of speed and attempted to stop them on SR 7 near 132nd Street East.

Two of the riders stopped and the other two kept going. Police followed to try and find the riders but did not turn on their lights or sirens.

Police came upon the crash at the crash at the Roy Y and immediately shut down the road. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

The other rider has not been located. The road was closed for just under four hours for the investigation and cleanup.

The name of the rider will not be released until next of kin can be notified.
