Missing ATV rider found trapped under vehicle

MARYSVILLE, Wash. — Searchers found a man who didn't return from an afternoon ride on his ATV at the bottom of an embankment where he had been trapped under the vehicle for hours.

Searchers found Peter Cedarland, 20, after hearing his screams for help around 4 a.m., the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said.

"I could see the wheels up in the air. I could see branches all around him. We had to pull some trees and shrubbery away from him, and pull some dirt away from his face so he could talk to us," said Robert Guss of the Tulalip Tribal Police Department.

Cedarland was last seen about 4:30 p.m. on Monday.  When he didn't come home, his family called Tulalip police, who began a search.  Snohomish County Search and Rescue was called out at 12:30 a.m.

Chopper 7 video shot just before 6 a.m. showed the victim being put into a medic unit.

A representative at Providence Hospital in Everett said Cedarland was in surgery late Tuesday morning.  He was listed in stable condition.
