WASHINGTON - Miss Washington USA, Stormy Keffeler, has resigned after it came to light she pleaded guilty to DUI in September, one month before she was crowned.
According to Miss Washington organizer, Keffeler failed to disclose the DUI when she entered the competition. Contestants are required to fill out extensive paperwork.
Organizers became aware of the arrest several days ago through an anonymous email.
According to the rules of the pageant, contestants promise they have not or will not engage in illegal activity.
"There was nothing disclosed on her paperwork," said Maureen Francisco, Miss Washington USA Pageant co-director. "You have to disclose everything -- if you have any nudity, if you've ever had a felony, you disclose every piece of information."
Francisco says Keffeler was remorseful.
Keffeler served two days in the Kirkland Jail in December, when she was Miss Washington USA, to meet the requirements of her DUI guilty plea.
Runner-up Kelsey Schmidt is the new Miss Washington USA.
