Student in critical condition after accident at Lake Stevens High School pool

LAKE STEVENS, Wash. — A special needs student is in critical condition after he was found at the bottom of the Lake Stevens High School pool.

Officials said the man in his 20s had been hanging out in the pool area with other students before a party with other special needs classmates.

When a teacher did a head count, it was discovered that one student was missing.

Shortly before 11 a.m. Friday, the aquatics manager found the student unresponsive in the bottom of the pool.  She dove in, pulled the man up and performed CPR for several minutes before medics arrived.

He was then transported to Providence Hospital in Everett in critical condition.
