Marysville police seek public's help in looking for Level 3 sex offender

MARYSVILLE, Wash. — Police are looking for a Level 3 sex offender in Marysville who has not been seen for several weeks.

John E. Stains, 39, was registered to live at a home in the 4900 block of 61st Street.

According to police, when detectives went to his home Thursday to conduct a routine monthly check, they were told he had left the home a couple weeks ago and did not return.

Police said Stains has not registered with another address and his whereabouts are unknown.

“In light of his recent statements, we are concerned enough to ask the public to help us get Stains into custody,” stated Commander Robb Lamoureux.

According to police, Stains did not participate in sex offender treatment while in prison.

Police said Stains has made statements about a desire to abduct women from a trail and sexually assault them.

In 2009, Stains pleaded guilty in Snohomish County Superior Court to one count of first-degree incest. Police said his conviction was the result of him sexually assaulting  a woman and threatened to kill her.

Police describe Stains as white, 6 feet tall, 210 pounds, with brown hair, blue eyes and wears glasses. He has a felony Department of Corrections warrant for escaping community custody.

Anyone with information about Stains’ whereabouts is urged to call the Marysville Police Department at 360-363-8350.
