SEATTLE —

A marriage equality flag is flying on top of the Space Needle.

Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn and King County Executive Dow Constantine were among those who helped raise the flag on the roof of the iconic Seattle landmark Sunday morning.

The event comes after the U.S. Supreme Court's historic ruling on Wednesday, which gave legally married gay couples equal federal benefits and cleared the way for same-sex marriages to resume in California.

After the raising of the flag, the annual Pride Parade kicked off in downtown Seattle.
