BELLINGHAM, Wash. - A man was taken into custody after a fatal stabbing in Bellingham early Saturday morning, police said.

Around 2:15 a.m., police were called to Peach Health St. Joseph Medical Center to investigate a double stabbing.

According to police, two injured teenagers were brought to the hospital by a private vehicle. One of the teens, 17-year-old Davonte R. Thompson, died from his injuries. The second victim, an 18-year-old man, received non-life-threatening wounds to his face and has since left the hospital.

Police discovered the stabbing happened around the area of Samish Way and Fielding Avenue and witnesses at the hospital gave officers a description of a man.

When officers contacted residents at a home in the 500 block of Samish Way, they found out there was a party the evening before.

As police interviewed two residents, 21-year-old Geoff K. Spain opened the door and walked in.

Spain was covered in mud and had what appeared to be blood on his clothing, police said.

After Spain saw the officers, he ran from the house on foot.

After a brief chase, Spain was detained.

According to police, several witnesses positively identified him and he was taken into custody.

As police conducted an investigation, they found a knife at the home.

Spain was booked into the Whatcom County Jail on charges of first-degree assault and second-degree homicide.
